Gibbons Trade Education Centre

For more than a decade, Gibbons have worked with Nelson College to develop and deliver alternative education programmes that provide tangible education pathways into trade, for young men that were not wanting to head off to university. These pathways cover Construction, Automotive and Light Engineering.

As foundation Platinum Sponsor, Gibbons not only designed and built the Trade Centre facility, but also helped to develop the carpentry curriculum. Now, over 10 years later, and after more than 500 students have graduated through the Trade Education Centre, Gibbons is again working closely with Nelson College to review and update the carpentry curriculum to meet the current needs and requirements of the industry.

UCOL Te Pūkenga

Te Whaioranga Health & Wellness Education Centre

Gibbons is proud to have recently completed the adaptive re-use redevelopment of Te Whaioranga, a new state-of-the-art health and wellness education centre at UCOL Te Pūkenga (Palmerston North). Gibbons owns the building and has entered into a long-term lease-back agreement with Te Pūkenga.

This facility is the only one of its kind in the Manawatū region, and will provide the perfect home for the next generation of healthcare heroes to hone their skills. Gibbons is delighted to have added this nationally significant legacy development into its investment portfolio, given the importance of the healthcare sector to the wider community.

YOUTH

Victory Boxing Gym

Victory Boxing was established with the aim of having a positive impact on at-risk youth in the Nelson community, teaching them life skills, honesty, respect, determination, and caring. In its first year, the programme had 20 children involved. In 2013, Victory moved to its current premises at 98 Vanguard Street, Nelson, and due to the popularity and success of the programme, now has over 400 children registered.

As cornerstone sponsor of Victory Boxing, Gibbons has provided its unconditional support since its opening through the use of its Vanguard Street premises as a home for the gym.

Nelson College

Playing Field Redevelopment

In 2022 Gibbons once again worked with Nelson College, this time to comprehensively redevelop the college's main playing field. The field had long suffered from poor drainage and were a far cry from the flagship grounds a proud rugby college deserves (Nelson College played in the first game of Rugby in New Zealand back in 1870).

Gibbons underwrote the project to ensure it could commence and then worked with the college to successfully fundraise the entire (significant) cost of the redevelopment. Gibbons leveraged its extensive local and national networks, and in doing so, helped to bring Nelson College a raft of new corporate sponsors.
