With the Nelson Tasman region population continuing to grow, the Hospice has been planning a new care facility to service the community for years to come. With the early involvement of Gibbons and Irving Smith Architects, as a group they were able to redefine what a Hospice building should be. From initial concept through to detailed design, Gibbons and Irving Smith Architects worked to understand the specific needs of this facility and the challenges faced by the nurses and wider Hospice staff.
Construction onsite begun in August 2017 with site clearing and earthworks, with foundations completed in January and the structure taking place from February 2018. With an expansive 2400m2 single story floor space and highly refined landscaped areas, this facility will include 10 specialty Inpatient Unit’s, family accommodation, community facilities, educational areas and much more.
Gibbons feel extremely proud to be part of this project and look forward to the opening in early 2019.
