GIBBONS - THE COMPANY

Gibbons was originally founded in the 1930s during the depression by Mr Clifford (Bill) Gibbons. Bill had specialised in brickwork, brick chimneys, fireplaces and plastering. A milestone in Bill's early days was winning the contract to build some 50 tobacco kilns in the Nelson/Golden Bay area.

In the 1950's & 1960's several major projects were completed by Gibbons Construction Ltd
° Golden Bay Cement Company manufacturing facility
° Nelson Freezing Works
° George Manson Block (6 storey) at Nelson Hospital
° Nelson Cotton Mill Honda Vehicle assembly plant
° Lyttleton Tunnel tiling

In 1970, Bills youngest son, Roger, joined the company having completed his B.Com at Canterbury University. Roger grew the Construction and Property Investment businesses completing many major building projects and expanded the Timber Milling, Forestry and Concrete Production Plant. The Timber Mill has been part of the Group since 1951 and was acquired 100% in the 1960's. Visit their web page: www.waisaw.co.nz
